Lack of Self-Confidence

Hiccup lacks self-confidence, partly because he does not believe in himself and partly because others do not believe in him. Hiccup is expected to step into the role of chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe after his father. The high expectations for someone who does not feel confident undoubtedly add to his lack of self-confidence. He is small for his age and lacks physical strength. The Hairy Hooligan tribe and Vikings in general value physical strength above all other skills. Hiccup lacks in those specific skills, which means most of the people of the tribe do not consider Hiccup to be a valuable part of their tribe.
