Summary
In Chapter 34, Constance asked Gail, her mother, how Freddie died. Gail said that he stepped on a rusty nail and died of lockjaw even though he was taken immediately to the hospital. She added that Aunt Honey was the only one who was alive at that time.
Louise picked up Poppy and told Mark they were going to see Aunt Honey. When Louise, Mark, and Poppy arrived at Aunt Honey’s hospital room, Honey sensed that Louise was angry. Louise told her that she was tired of the family and its secrets. She demanded to know how Freddie died.
Aunt Honey motioned to Pupkin and said she was glad that Nancy had kept Pupkin because it had been Freddie’s. She described how Freddie’s mother had thrown everything away that had belonged to him. Nancy had rescued the puppet...
