Summary
Safiya’s father traveled to Japan for his music and she, her mother, and the rest of the children went to visit their grandmother, Pauline. Safiya loved the freedom of spending time with her grandmother and being able to relax the strict Rasta rules they were held to when her father was around. Their Uncle Clive mocks their Rasta beliefs and tells the children that Haile Selassie is wicked and greedy and surely will go to hell. The children are shocked.
The children experience a mysterious hair loss and Lij had to shave his head completely as there was no way to hide the bald spot. Although the hair loss is confirmed to be caused by a fungus of some kind, Safiya is sure that she is being punished for disobeying Jah and eating meat and other sinful actions.
