Book Two: That Summer: Chapter Eleven Summary
Three days before the wedding, Lorna and her father return from a promotional tour to the Bahamas, bringing back a shell wind chime for Haven. The day before Ashley's wedding, Lakeview Mall has a sale and Haven is accosted by a woman who thinks Haven is responsible for the fact that she can't get her child the exact sneaker in the correct size. Aggravated, she throws the sneaker hitting Haven in the forehead. Haven snaps. She grabs the shoe and chases the woman, and flings the shoe right back, hitting the woman in the same place. She begins to holler, insisting she'll see Haven fired and seeking mall security for what she calls an assault. Haven runs out of the mall, not even stopping when Sumner's voice is calling her name.
