New York City
New York City is the setting for many of the stories in this collection. New York consists of five boroughs, and the diversity of the boroughs is explored in stories like "The City Born Great" and "On the Banks of the River Lex." In "The City Born Great," the black youth is able to channel vibrant energy from Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and even parts of New Jersey to fight off the Mega Cop that is threatening New York City's soul. He is able to use the power of multiperspectivism to defeat the homogenous, big-eyed NYPD cop monster that is after him, and represents the worst aspects of New York--racial discrimination, unthinking uniformity, and police brutality. In "On the Banks of the River Lex," Death crosses the Williamsburg Bridge into Manhattan, visits Union Square, and then goes up to the Upper East Side...
