The police, who had entered the flat while Sammy was in the bath, handcuff him and take him back to the police station, where he is questioned by three men about what he did over the weekend. They are trying to get information relating to the terrorist activities of Sammy's friend Charlie and it appears that they are not local policemen. Sammy tells them about the row with Helen, and says that he can't remember much about what happened over the weekend until he woke up on Sunday morning. He tells them that he was drinking more than usual because of the row and because he was depressed about being unemployed.
