Cliff

Cliff is married to Miki. He has one adopted daughter, Clara, and a granddaughter, Yumi. He teaches graduate students at a university and often works on archeological and excavation projects. Throughout his granddaughter's life, Cliff urges his daughter to stay home and be with Yumi. He and Miki have raised her since she was five and Clara began working overseas. Clara is disinterested in Cliff's life and does not give up her work.

When Cliff and Miki learn that Clara died while at a research outpost in Siberia, Cliff decides to travel to Russia in order to complete his daughter's work. He arrives at the site hoping to learn more about Clara. Once in her sleeping pod, he rummages through her belongings. He is not only looking for her purple pendant necklace, but for some evidence of the life she had outside of her family. He finds her...
