Summary

In "A Gallery a Century, a Cry a Millennium," on December 30, 2037, six years after the Arctic plague broke out, Miki and Yumi boarded the U.S.S. Yamato. A select group of individuals would be "traveling the stars" in search of whatever was beyond the solar system (187). Just before leaving, Miki told Yumi she did not have to come with her, but Yumi insisted she wanted to. Like the other young passengers, Yumi would have to enter a pod and sleep through the journey. Miki watched as the technicians readied Yumi. She "succumbed to the sedatives and the cryo gel washed over her" (190).
