Summary
In "Speak, Fetch, Say I Love You," the narrator tries to repair his "neighbor's robo-dog" (125). He texts his son Aki for help with an incoming customer. Aki has been misbehaving since his mother's death, but agrees to help. The customer gives the narrator her dog, Mochi. The narrator knows there is nothing he can do to fix the dog, but lies because he thinks "people need to hope” (131).
After replacing many of the dog's parts, he returns it to the girl. Mochi will never be the same. Robo-dogs gain personalities via sustained time with their owners. Changing the motherboard will disrupt the dog's memories.
