The Priest of the Sun, Reverend John Big Bluff Tosamah, gives a sermon in the basement of a two-story red-brick building in Los Angeles in which he lived with his disciple, Cruz. The A.A. Kaul Office Supply Company used the second floor as a storage facility. His sermon is about the Word and Truth and during it, he recalls an old Kiowa woman, his grandmother, who was illiterate but who had a great appreciation for language and stories. She had told him a story about a time when the Kiowas were hungry and a man set off in search of food.
