Summary
In Chapter 30, Amma arrives back home and is shocked to see Nana at the end of her hallway. Nana tells her to be quiet, and Amma asks why she is so serious, wearing a large black headwrap and dress. Nana only tells Amma to come upstairs, to change into customary clothing for when Belinda is able to join them. Nana tells her daughter that there is big news, but that it must be broken slowly. She tells Amma what has happened as she wraps a traditional piece of cloth around her hair. When Belinda notices Amma's headwrap, she pulls her face into a smile, and it is Amma who cries.
