Summary
Chapter 16 skims forward in time, and Amma and Belinda now travel to the Otuo house together a few times a week. On one occasion, the girls stop at a movie theater to buy a drink and some cake. Sitting across from each other, Amma wonders what it would be like to like Belinda, to kiss her, to have sex with her. She daydreams and Belinda asks her what she is smiling about, and Amma laughs, spilling her food across the table. Amma suddenly becomes playful, raising her cake as if to throw at Belinda. She tells Belinda to be silly too, and so Belinda blobs some icing on her face. The two girls walk to a window, and they look at the city below. Amma turns to Belinda and takes a dollop off of her cheek and eats it, winking. Later that evening...
