Summary
Chapter 7 begins with Belinda on the phone with Mary. It has only been three days since they were together, and the conversation is awkward at first. Belinda begins describing London and Mary becomes enthused. When Belinda tells Mary of Amma, though, she recounts how rude and distant Amma has been so far. Mary tells her to find a way to get Amma to interact with her, since that is the whole reason that she is in London.
The next day, in Chapter 8, Belinda prepares an afternoon snack and coffee in the kitchen and tells Nana to bring Amma to the living room. When they are all together, Amma stares at the ceiling and as Nana starts to talk, Amma says “we don’t need to have a discussion about everything” (55). Belinda looks around the room and her gaze settles on the decorations composed...
