Summary

The prologue opens with Sofie hiding in a Kavalla death camp. With the Ophion rebels falling, she plans to reach Servast by shifting between her Vanir and human identities. It is revealed that she secretly did a ritual called The Drop which gave her powers, but her family was killed by dread wolves. However, she learned her brother survived in Kavalla. Thanks to Pippa, Sofie was captured with knowledge that could defeat the Asteri that she used as collateral to ensure the rebels would keep their promise.

Sofie uses her Vanir gifts to lead Emile and a group of children to Agent Silver who drives them all to Servast. Silver says a woman named the Hind is coming and he has not heard from Pippa.
