The Deerfield House
The Deerfield House is where Mary and Thomas live. It is considered impressive, as is befitting Thomas's status as the local miller. The author describes the house as having six rooms on two stories. One impressive feature is the stairs because most people used ladders to get to the upper floor. The hall is one of the downstairs rooms and there is a huge fireplace in the kitchen, a smaller one in the parlor, and another small one in one of the upstairs bedrooms. This is also extravagant, considering how difficult it is to cut and haul firewood.
