Sara Wilby
Sara Wilby was a nineteen-year-old girl who worked for two shifts in the Global Hotel before she died. Sara is dead before the events of the novel even begin, and the first narrative voice of the book belongs to her ghost.
Sara is a talented competitive swimmer, and her preferred stroke is the butterfly. She lives with her father, mother, and younger sister, Clare, sharing a room with the latter. She fell in love with a girl in a watch shop after her own watch broke and she took it to get repaired; Sara would never tell the girl in the watch shop she had feelings for her, nor anyone else. Sara would also fail to pick up the repaired watch, due to being too nervous to approach the girl again.
