Summary

In Volume II, Chapter XI, Sir Philip understood that his disguise and pursuit were no longer sustainable. With Jennet’s news, he bribed Chaddock to kidnap Hope while she freed Magawisca. Rosa felt that her prayers for Hope reached the heavens, making Sir Philip nervous. She resented that he planned to make her Hope’s servant despite her respect for her. Eventually, they returned with a woman wearing Chaddock’s cloak. He claimed that Antonio had abandoned them, prolonging the affair. The woman struggled with her gag. On their way to a cabin, they passed a barrel of gunpowder. Sir Philip begged Rosa to be careful with the lamp as the woman slumped in his arms. In a moment, Rosa threw the lamp into the gunpowder, exploding the ship.
