Summary
After her husband, Maati, beats her again, Halima seeks comfort at her mother’s home. Her mother tells her that she will find comfort in being patient with Maati’s alcoholism if she can learn how to handle her husband. Halima reveals she wants to get a divorce. Halima’s mother urges her to visit a magic sorceress to learn how to manage Maati.
Halima buys a powder from the sorceress and adds it into a bread. Maati comes home, looking apologetic, and begins to eat dinner with Halima and their three children. After dinner, Maati kisses Halima on the neck and invites her to sit outside with him. Halima believes the magic powder is working.
