Mikki Kendall
Mikki is the author and narrator of this memoir-in-essays. She is a writer and activist who believes in an intersectional feminism that addresses the needs of all women, particularly the marginalized women who have been left behind by mainstream feminism which focuses primarily on middle- and upper-class white women. Mikki describes herself as having grown up in relative poverty but with a degree of adult support and encouragement that many of her peers lacked. Mikki has personally experienced many of the issues that she discusses in this book including domestic violence, poverty, food insecurity, housing insecurity, sexual abuse, racism, and gun violence. Her perspective on these issues is, therefore, a blend of personal experience and informed knowledge based on research and social justice education.
