Point of View

Homecoming, the novel, is written in first-person from the limited perspective of Dicey Tillerman. Dicey is only 13-years-old, which has an effect on her perspective. She is rather naive about many things and does not fully understand how the world works. For example, Dicey sets out to walk from the mall where she and her siblings were abandoned. Her destination is the home of a great-aunt whom Dicey has never met. Since the distance on a map does not look that far, Dicey believes it will take them a couple of days to get there. At the end of the first day, she realizes they will have to walk for weeks to make the journey.
