Summary
Page 41 begins with the title “Another Life.” Nima imagines a life in the old country where her father “stays alive stays [line break] alive alive stays alive to meet me” (41). Page 42 is titled “Baba” as Nima imagines what her father would be like and how happy her family would be if they were all together. Page 43 is titled “Haitham” as Nima talks about him singing loudly from one of the tapes and she joins him, with the words to the song written in Arabic. Haitham’s grandmother scolds them, saying that their loud singing late at night will “call [the jinn] to our side” (43). Nima knows she is “too old to be scared by these things” but it works and they watch a movie instead (43).
