Armoire
The armoire is a symbol of journeys and deceit. Ewan hints at the role that the armoire will play in the novel when he notes that it reminds him of the Chronicles of Narnia, a series of children’s stories in which another world is accessed through a wardrobe. Ewan has no idea that Elsa and Marta are using a secret passage leading from a door at the back of the house to the armoire to access his daughter’s bedroom.
