Holland’s Trailer

Wardell Holland lives in a trailer that he rents from his mother. This is where Skinner tells him about his idea to save the town by staging the appliances of the Virgin May. It is also the place Virgil searches for any evidence that may link Holland to the crimes. The search serves to create a red herring because even though Virgil does not find any evidence, he finds it strange that there are no signs that Holland was in the army. This fact creates a shadow of a doubt as readers wonder whether Holland might not be who he says he is. The setting also shows Holland's need for the help of others as he rents the trailer from his mother and he waits for Skinner to bring him beer there.
