Although the authors' investigation into the list of Priory of Sion grand masters proves that this group of individuals was either related to or was known to associate with members of families listed in the genealogies, the investigation does not prove that the Priory of Sion continued to exist beyond the Middle Ages. The fact that many of the persons listed were made grand master as young as five or eight years of age also called the list into question. The authors explore history to find inarguable proof of the order's existence throughout the centuries, beginning with the fortunes of the house of Lorraine and some of the other families listed in the Prieure documents.
