S.T.
S.T., short for Shit Turd, is the primary narrator and protagonist of the novel. He is a domesticated American crow who was raised by a human named Big Jim. S.T. owes his salty language to Big Jim. He affectionately calls humans "MoFos" and, in fact, considers himself to be an honorary MoFo. Additionally, S.T. owes his broad knowledge and extensive vocabulary to television documentaries and commercials, which he generally watched while Big Jim was asleep.
When Big Jim’s eyeball falls out and he loses his basic humanity, S.T. is forced to fend for himself and also take care of Dennis, a bloodhound. The crow and dog are forced to leave their home and learn how to survive in the natural world, with all of its wonders, mysteries, and threats.
