Summary
Chapter 8 is subtitled “S.T.: University Branch, The Seattle Public Library, Seattle, Washington, USA.” Dennis’ health improved after S.T. applied the crows’ yarrow to his wound. Soon S.T. and Dennis headed south along I-5, as per Kraai’s directions, in search of Onida. The highway was littered with abandoned cars. Some MoFos wandered about with humped backs and stretched necks. Flying over a park, S.T. saw burnt grass, plane wreckage, and empty boats. Deer were grazing on the overgrowth. The crow and dog encountered a set of bovine rib cages, mostly picked clean, and they saw a panicked goat whose tail had been bitten off.
S.T. heard the trees communicating with each other, mostly sharing memories of events long past, but also mentioning a “predestined event” and a “renaissance” (54). However, S.T. also sensed that the Douglas firs were speaking...
