Summary
In Chapter 8, Kathleen and Marissa “were only meant to stay” with Tiffany for a few months, but their stay “stretched to a year” (103). Because Tiffany had always been Marissa’s mentor “in matters of style and beauty,” she gave her opinion liberally at their “hair and makeup trial” (104). In spite of her bad mood, Kathleen feigned excitement. In reality, Marissa’s happiness worsened Kathleen’s upset (105). She had therefore been procrastinating planning the Vegas trip.
Throughout the session, the stylist asked Marissa about Brian. Kathleen felt annoyed because Marissa disregarded all she had done for her, and instead saw Brian as “the shining knight who had rescued” her from her addiction and distress (109).
