Summary

In Chapter 4, at LB’s “loft at Dolly’s, a West Oakland co-op converted from a former packing warehouse for Dolly’s Sweets,” LB made Kathleen “download a dating app” (51). While scrolling through profiles, they found an ad for Midas Touch, “a self-proclaimed cuddle clinic” (54). Because she had studied psychology, Kathleen knew there was a thing “called the Midas touch” (55). LB urged Kathleen to apply. Although disinterested, LB submitted an application on her behalf. She then made Kathleen smash a mug to release her anger over Oren.

Kathleen went to Midas Touch for an aptitude test and interview. She then had a practice cuddle session with an employee named Nadia. While cuddling with Nadia, Kathleen found herself drifting into memories with Oren. She was surprised that when Nadia rearranged herself, her body knew “what to do” (65).
