Summary

In Chapter 25 “I’m Going to Break My Rusty Cage and Run,” Sam wakes to discover he’s been bound in leather straps on a wooden table. He can see Brid standing in the cage. She tells him that Douglas smelled like fear and that “whatever [he] did scared him” (286). They agree they need to escape. Ashley appears and is unable to free Sam; Douglas’ powers are too strong. Brid speculates that the reason Sam was able to use his power was because Tia broke the binding spell. Ashley coaches Sam through focusing his power on the magic inside the cage to try and counter it by finding a weakness. He is able to overload the spot where he senses the weakness and Brid is able to escape the cage. They hear the door unlock and Ashley disappears and Brid hides under the...
