Book Five, Trial and Error: Chapters 87-100 Summary
In chapter eighty-seven, Barry Kahn calls Norma Breen, an investigator, and hires her to investigate Will's murder, hopefully finding evidence to help in Maggie's defense. In chapter eighty-eight, Norma is aware of the publicity about Maggie's case, but does not believe most of it. However, Norma does believe there is something wrong with the case. At the same time, Peter O'Malley writes a letter about his father's murder.
In chapter eighty-nine, the prosecutor, Dan Nizhinski, is confident that not only did Maggie kill Will, but that she killed her first husband and she will kill again if released.
In chapter ninety, Maggie begins to question her own innocence.
