Book One, Star-Crossed: Chapters 9-16 Summary
In chapter nine, Maggie works for Barry for more than a year, learning the craft of song writing as well as playing gofer for his employees. In chapter ten, Maggie learns that Barry has sold one of her songs and that Barbara Streisand wants to sing it.
In chapter eleven, Maggie and Jennie fly to Los Angeles where they are put up in a bungalow behind Hollywood's famed Beverly Hill's Hotel. In chapter twelve, Maggie watches, both frustrated and excited, as Barbara Streisand records her song. Afterward, Barbara gives Maggie advice, assuring her she will be a star someday soon.
In chapter thirteen, Barry takes Maggie out to dinner to celebrate her success. Maggie tells Barry that writing music was her way of surviving, first her father's abandonment of the family and her mother's death...
