Summary

In Chapter 18, Ted wakes up drunk and tells Mallory it is not what it looks like. Ted does not want Mallory to get Caroline involved. Ted sees the clothes Caroline gave to Mallory and tells Mallory she “deserves better” (213). Ted tells Mallory that he and Caroline no longer share a bedroom. Ted rambles about Caroline’s family money and how this “is not the life I wanted. I never signed on for any of this” (214). Ted then tells Mallory that he could take care of her.

Chapter 19 opens the next morning with Caroline insisting Ted apologize to Mallory. Caroline is concerned that Mallory will sue them. Mallory calls and leaves a message for Dolores about Annie Barrett. Mallory falls asleep for four hours and dreams that she loses Teddy in a crowd.
