Jarrett Joseph Krosoczka
Jarrett J. Krosoczka is the main male protagonist of the memoir, as well as the author. Jarrett is the son of Leslie and Richard Hennessy, and the grandson of Shirley and Joe. He is also best friends with Pat, and the nephew of Lynn and Holly. The memoir is told from his first person perspective through the captions as a voice of God.
The reader first meets Jarrett in the prologue as a teenager as he considers his family legacy in the cemetery. Jarrett’s dreamy and sad foreshadowing sets the tone for the rest of the memoir. The memoir then reverts to telling the story of how his grandparents, then parents met, and eventually had him. At meeting him for the first time in the hospital, his grandfather says “Hey Kiddo” in a sweet voice, naming the memoir and giving Jarrett a nickname (39). In Chapter...
