Sophie Mercer

Sophia "Sophie" Mercer is a sixteen-year-old girl who just happens to be a witch. Like all witches, she came into her powers when she was twelve. But, unlike others, that was the first time she learned of her status. Her mother is a human and did not know she had married a warlock, and she divorced him as soon as she learned about it, so Sophie has never met her father, although they have exchanged e-mails and phone calls sporadically in recent years.

Sophie does not consider herself attractive because she has freckles and unruly hair, but she is kind and funny and in many ways a typical teenager. Perhaps because she has been raised by a human -- although her mother has learned as much as possible about Prodigium like Sophie -- she has difficulties controlling her powers, a fact that results in a sentence to...
