Point of View

The novel’s point of view is in first person, alternating between Arthur and Ben. Ben’s chapters are the odd numbered, Arthur’s chapters are even numbered. Ben’s portions are written by Silvera. Arthur’s chapters are written by Albertalli. Though both narrators are surrounded by a cast of supporting characters, the narrators are undoubtedly the main characters. However, that does not mean that their lives revolve around the leads. One of the main subplots is about Dylan not spending time with Ben. The payoff to this tension is that Samantha is pregnant, and she and Dylan are planning on getting married, a revelation that arrives firmly into the third act. Arthur’s point of view is chaotic and unreliable, making him somewhat unreliable.
