Summary
In Chapter 17, Thandi approaches her mother while she is cooking dinner. She first tells her mother she has something to show her but Delores is so engrossed in asking about Margot she does not pay any attention. Delores misunderstands Thandi at first when she tells her mother that she wants to draw. Thandi clarifies she wants to draw for a living. One drawing in particular catches Delores’ attention. It is of a half-naked woman in front of a mirror. Thandi tells her mother it is Delores and not her who wants her to be a doctor. When Delores asks who is giving Thandi ideas she can be an artist, Thandi tells her mother she has a mind of her own. She leaves the house. Inside, Delores thinks about the picture that Thandi showed her. Delores sees in that sketch the things...
