Summary
In Chapter 7, Margot arrives at home to find Thandi asleep on the couch surrounded by waded up drawings. She remembers how she had used the Wellington name, that of her boss, to get Thandi’s demerit status changed. She has been getting Alphonso to write the checks for Thandi’s tuition and calling it a scholarship. Margot notices not only that her sister is turning into a woman but also that her skin is getting lighter.
When Thandi wakes, she kids Margot about the new man she believes her sister is seeing. Margot warns Thandi not to be thinking about boys or getting caught up with one because she needs to focus on studying.
Later, when Margot is visiting Verdene, she thinks about how she was so pleased when Verdene told her for the first time that she was pretty. After...
