Point of View
The novel is written in third person from a limited perspective. Each chapter focuses on one of the three sisters, Jackie, Sam, and Faith. The perspective is limited to that particular sister during that chapter. For example, Sam learns about Bill's affair during the first chapter of the novel. Up to that point, Sam had no idea that Jackie's marriage was in trouble or that Bill was having an affair. In Chapter 7, which is the second chapter that focuses on Jackie's perspective, Jackie reveals that she already knew Bill was having an affair.
The perspective remains limited only to Jackie, Sam, and Faith, throughout the novel. While there are some other important characters, including Lovie, the limited perspective means the reader knows only what Jackie, Sam, and Faith know, and only when it is revealed to them.
