Summary
In Chapter 32, “Samantha,” Sam has a new bottle of Wild Turkey and she quickly drinks some. Lovie objects that the liquor is “not going to help” (300) but Sam refutes that. Eli warns that drinking always becomes a problem. Sam snaps at her mother, then apologizes. Everyone offers to help clean up the mess Curtis left, and Eli promises to return with food. Lovie pledges that she will hit Curtis with a pan if he confronts her again. She points out that Eli likes Sam but Sam knows her actions regarding the whiskey that evening did not put her in a good light. Sam is upset about the damage and the valuable items that are gone, but is more angry about the photos and other sentimental items that cannot be replaced.
