Summary
In Chapter 9, Sheriff King tried to avoid giving Morgan any information. He believed that Chelsea’s kidnapping was still an open case. Morgan suggested that working with Sharp would be good for the sheriff’s department because she, Sharp, and Lance would be able to focus all of their attention on finding Chelsea. She told about her own experience with her children not remembering their father because he was killed in Iraq. She told this personal story as an attempt to cut through King’s stubbornness and arrogance. It was not until Morgan threatened to go to the press that King finally told her that there were no signs of foul play in Chelsea’s disappearance. In fact, he seemed more convinced that Chelsea had simply left because she was tired and frustrated.
