Jaigirdar uses the theme of Shame to explore the overall experience of LGBT teenagers and the process they go through when they come out. First she shows that in this process, there is both confusion about the sexuality of others, as well as hypocrisy when it comes to adults trying to shame LGBT youth about their sexuality. Next, Jaigirdar proves that shame does not just impact one member of the family but an entire community, having extended ripple effects.
