Summary

Chapter 20 begins with Nishat waking up and feeling nervous about going to school. When she and Priti arrive, Priti is worried about her - giving her a hug before they part. Jess and Chaewon meet Nishat at her locker, and say they are sorry about what happened and they have her back if she wants to go to a teacher. Nishat says she does not want to go to a teacher, “I’m not ashamed of it. It’s who I am. I’m comfortable being a lesbian. I’m just . . . I’m not a spectacle” (232). Jess makes a joke about Nishat making a move on Chyna at her birthday party and they all laugh. Jess and Chaewon link arms with Nishat saying they will stay by her side. Nishat feels better, but she still feels like a spectacle.
