Summary
In Chapter 25, “The Girl Who Didn’t Know her Destiny,” which is written from Virgil’s perspective, Virgil is still in the well and thinks that he hears Pah coming. He thinks about not having the solution as happens in school sometimes when he does not raise his hand and the teacher calls on him. Then he hears a voice that tells him to open his eyes. It is a girl’s voice and it tells him that Pah will get bigger the more scared he is. He realizes that Pah is not there. She tells him that she is Ruby San Salvador and she is there fulfilling her destiny which is to help people who are in trouble. Virgil thinks that the situation is hopeless because she cannot get him out of the well, but she says that nothing is hopeless.
