Summary
In Stop 7, “The Fountain,” after buying candy at the mini-mart, Clare and Aidan drive to “the village square” (110). They walk to “the stone fountain at the center” (110). Aidan recalls the first time they visited the fountain. Clare remembers the night, but does not remember Aidan’s presence. They argue about who noticed the other first.
The couple apologizes to one another for getting upset. Although the evening has been difficult, Clare assures Aidan she wants “to remember it all” (112). Studying their surroundings, Aidan asks if Clare ever imagines living in the area as an adult. Clare has never thought of this, as “there are so many things still to come” (115). She assures Aidan he will do great things. She cares for him, but thinks “It’s crazy” to imagine them spending their whole lives together (115).
