Summary

In Stop 4, “The Gallaghers’ House,” Clare and Aidan drive to Aidan’s house as Riley “needs a ride to the bowling alley” (59). They plan to make the stop “really quick,” but inside, Aidan’s parents are arguing about Aidan’s future (60). Because they have always been kind to Clare, she is shocked to hear how angry they are. Clare recalls everything Aidan has told her about his father, particularly his obsession with the future. Aidan has never wanted the life his dad wants for him.

Inside, the Gallaghers ask to speak with Aidan alone. Clare goes upstairs to find Riley. Riley reveals that her parents are fighting because Aidan lied: he never applied to Harvard.
