Summary

In Prologue, on their last night before leaving for college, Aidan and Clare meet up. They have 12 hours together before saying goodbye. Aidan hopes he can change Clare’s mind about breaking up. Clare has made a list of things to spend the night doing.

In Stop 1, “The High School,” Clare and Aidan drive to their school. On the way, Aidan suggests driving off together and forgetting college. Clare reminds him their future begins tomorrow “No matter what” (4).

That morning, Clare “woke up in a panic about how many goodbyes she still had to say” (5). She did not want to part with Aidan, or “her best friend, Stella; Aidan’s sister, Riley; and his pal, Scotty” (5). Clare also fears parting with “the town itself” (5). She made the list as “a nostalgia tour, a journey into the past” (6).
