Part Five: December 23, 1970: Chapters 36 - 41 Summary

Ben again suggests to Florence that she leave Hell House. When she refuses, he tells her that what she thinks is Daniel may not be. Florence still won't relent. She gives Ben a medallion that says Believe on it, and asks if he will sit with her while she goes into a trance the next time, and he reluctantly agrees.

Lionel does laps in the pool and then suggests they go into the steam room. He goes in, and Edith undresses and follows him. She sits beside him, touches him, then straddles him. When he isn't responsive, she angrily leaves the steam room. He is surprised for a moment, and wonders if the house is effecting her also, and then realizes he shouldn't leave her alone out there.
