Reverend Florence Tanner had informed her parishioners at both morning at evening services in her church that she would be gone for a week. Then she went to the lectern and prayed for the strength she knew she would need to cleanse the Belasco house.
Lionel makes Edith promise that once they arrive at the Belasco house, she is not to leave his side. She worries that her presence there will make it harder for him to work, but she knows how close to an emotional breakdown she had come the last time they were apart and can't face that again.
