Summary
In Chapter 8, Mom has an accident in the kitchen and cuts her arm. She calls for an ambulance. While they wait, Eyes becomes increasingly frantic while Mom laughs several times. She explains “I always laugh when I get scared” (1961). Eyes is even more upset that she is scared. She instructs him to wait at home. He asks if he should call his father, but she says “Don't bother.” He cleans up the blood and “spaced out on the couch” while waiting for her to return. She arrives that afternoon, having gotten five stitches. Eyes cooks dinner for them with her offering instruction, and they eat early.
