Summary
Chapter 29 opens with Kip living in “the divorce apartment, the furnished penthouse suite of Gulf Vista” after separating from his wife, Gretchen (377). Kip is watching the news, as he does constantly, focusing on the banners at the bottom of the screen to monitor his stocks. Kip’s stock broker, Tiffy Campbell, is calling from New York repeatedly, but he ignores each of her calls.
At his lawyer’s office later that morning, Kip learns that a group of shareholders are suing Dark Elephant. They claim that Kip misrepresented property value, ultimately losing them money knowingly. In addition to Dark Elephant, the lawyer explains, the shareholders are naming Kip personally on the suit.
Kip heads to the Dar Energy offices after his meeting with the lawyers, and his stepfather tells him that the drilling in Pennsylvania has to stop immediately. He finally answers a...
